Heart Valentine’s Day Craft for Kids

Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone!

The littles have created the cutest little Valentine’s Day card and I just had to share.

I found two ideas on Pinterest and combined them. If you’d like to make them, the original crafts can be found Here and Here.

The difficulty level of this craft is pretty easy and I would recommend it for 2+ year olds. My four year old was able to do all of this by himself.

Materials:

  • Printer Paper
  • Construction Paper
  • Safety Scissors (Kid scissors)

Rock Painting: Dots

What is rock painting?

Exactly how it sounds. Painting stones with acrylic paint, sealing them, and then enjoying or hiding for some lucky wanderer to find.

What is Dot painting?

The technique of painting a rock or other material with dots instead of strokes. Dot painting om rocks is also called Mandala stones and is becoming very popular.

What tools are needed to dot paint?

They’re are specialty tools specifically designed to make dots. Typically these are used for nail art, but also work well for Rock Painting. However, they are not required. The eraser end of a pencil, the end top of a paint brush, or even a Q-tip can be used to create dots of all different sizes.

Here is how I did it:

Step 1: A rock. Evan picked this one and gave it a layer of black and green mixed together.

Step 2: After allowing it to completely dry, roughly an hour, I began dotting. For the largest dots I used the eraser end of a pencil. Then, used various paint brush tips to create various dot sizes and make a pattern.

Here you can see the sizes each brush tip creates.

This was my first ever dot rock and I am thrilled with how it turned out.

After allowing all of the dots to dry, I sealed the rock using gloss Mod Podge.

Happy Rocking!
